Masked

MASKED
Thin line of fabric below my eyeline,
Swathes my face, a protective bastion,
Ringed about
Against an evil that I cannot see, it sits,
Comforting, shielding my face from not only
The world but from myself
A parapet from behind which
I keep guard
Against anxiety's sorties
I am loath to lower it
Lest I see my own
Frailty
